A Quaker town on the National Road
Plainfield takes its name from the plain Quakers who settled the area in the 1820s. It was platted in 1839 along the National Road, which had opened through the area in 1830, and it grew from 19,439 residents in 2000 to 27,631 in 2010 and 34,625 at the 2020 census.
