About Franklin Township
Franklin Township was laid out in 1822 in the southeast corner of Marion County. Its first settlement, New Bethel, was platted on the Michigan Road in 1834 and renamed Wanamaker in 1889, and Acton was laid out in 1852. Although the township covers only 10 percent of the county, it holds 40 percent of the county's undeveloped farm ground, and it was one of the last parts of Marion County to see heavy suburban building.
By 2024 the township had 66,721 residents and 24,881 homes, with a median owner-occupied home value of $289,500, about a fifth above the county figure. That mix is exactly the work we see here: newer houses that need interiors, blinds, decks and fences finished, and farm properties with barns and outbuildings that need repainting.
