Morgan County had 71,780 residents at the 2020 census. Martinsville was platted as the county seat in 1822 and keeps its 1859 Italianate courthouse, one of the few pre-Civil War courthouses in Indiana, while Mooresville in the north was platted in 1824 by Quaker settlers.
