The gateway to the Indiana Dunes
Chesterton was settled as Coffee Creek in 1833, took its current name in 1870 and incorporated in 1899 with 788 residents. It sits just south of Indiana Dunes State Park and Indiana Dunes National Park, hosts a Saturday European Market downtown from May through October, and grew from 10,488 residents in 2000 to 14,241 at the 2020 census.
