About Dyer
The Lincoln Highway's model mile
Dyer, named for Martha Dyer Hart, was incorporated on February 8, 1910. The 1.5-mile Ideal Section of the Lincoln Highway, completed in 1923 between Dyer and Schererville, was built as a model for road construction. The town grew from 10,816 residents in 1990 to 13,895 in 2000, 16,390 in 2010 and 16,517 at the 2020 census.
