About Clermont
From Mechanicsburg to a west-side town
Clermont, on Crawfordsville Road at the west edge of Marion County, was laid out in April 1849 as Mechanicsburg beside a proposed railroad depot and renamed Clermont in 1853. It counted only about 205 residents around 1900, grew mainly after World War II, incorporated in 1903, and had 1,382 residents at the 2020 census.
